Happy Sunday!
You don’t surf in socks, duh. But Harry (co-founder) loves to surf, and this week he is on a team trip to Nicaragua to find sun, waves, and good food. Arvin Goods is a surf-friendly brand that makes a great after-surf product. Throw on a pair when you get out of your trunks or wetsuit and enjoy the comfort!
Our buddy Bryan is here in the new striped crew sock we are about to release. These are the outcome of our recent trip to Portugal. Improved construction, new footbed knit, wider top cuff, clean and comfortable. Definitely the best socks we have ever made. Over the next few months you will start to see some of the results from the past year of us re-organizing the brand. We have an exciting partnership coming with Recover Fiber. The new socks use this fiber from Spain, and manufacturing in Portugal, so 100% made in Europe from fiber to finish. This is a big step for us to simplify our process and product but also reduce our impact, and minimize the amount of times our materials, and socks are moved for sale.
Of course, we are proud of all of these improvements. The world is moving towards expansive regulation in the apparel industry targeting implementation by 2028, or 2030. Because of our supply chain partners, and take-back program, we meet all of these standards today. We truly make the cleanest most comfortable socks you can buy in the market.
Hope you enjoy today’s Clean Up. We would love to hear from you. Comment here on substack hit us on social, or email us at info@arvingoods.com. Have a great week. Cheers,
Team AG ✌️🧦

22 Years in Prison Taught Me That Outdoor Access Is a Human Right - Outside Mag
Before 2006, the San Bruno County Jail had an outside exercise yard bigger than a football field. That year, the city of San Francisco unveiled a new jail on the same 242 acres of land, this one without any secure outdoor space. Now, exercise takes place in an indoor gym or in a cell—which means that people incarcerated there may not see the sun at all. In 2019, a group of former inmates who spent up to eleven years awaiting a trial date in the jail sued the city and its law enforcement. The individuals in custody reported getting less than a minute of sunlight a day during their time at San Bruno. The lawsuit, which went to court in 2023, alleged that denying these people access to the outdoors amounted to cruel and unusual punishment.
In an October ruling, U.S. Magistrate Judge Sallie Kim wrote that the city of San Francisco acted with “reckless indifference” to those people’s health and wellbeing by denying them time outside. Kim ruled that individuals who serve more than a year have a right to 15 minutes a day of direct sunlight. I’ve never been to the San Bruno County jail, but I have been incarcerated, and I can imagine how cruel it must feel to be stuck inside all day, every day.⛓️🌳

How Paris Became the Ultimate Skate City - HIGHSNOBIETY
For most tourists, gazing up at Paris’ iconic Haussman architecture is a romantic, if not religious, experience. But skateboarding is all about looking down, around, behind, and in between tourist traps for the unseen and undervalued. Along with notable plazas such as Le Dome, La Defense, and Trocadero Gardens, Paris offers a huge swathe of unique spots for skaters, such as L'embacle Fountain, a photogenic, enticing, and challenging sculpture that begs for a creative approach. From visual art to culinary heritage, it’s a city defined by culture and designed to be navigated on foot, and with easy access by rail to other satellite cities, Paris has become one of Europe’s most important cultural drivers for skateboarding. 🛹📸

What Had Happened Was Season 4 (Open Mike Eagle with Questlove) - Spotify
If you are not familiar with this pod, allow us to explain. Open Mike Eagle is a rapper who at some point decided to start a podcast where he, over the course of multiple episodes, deep dives into a catalog and career of a specific creator. The show is brilliant! Mike has great taste, extensive knowledge of the subject matter, and is a fantastic interviewer. Past seasons are Prince Paul, EL-P(👉🏻🤛🏻), and Dante Ross (Whoa!) I have listened to all the seasons, but I have a particular history and love of ALL things Roots. The long form story telling from Questlove of how a group of kids from North Philly got to where they are today is an amazing listen. Check it out, and enjoy.🥁🎙️
